STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT THE INDIAN METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT

The IMD logo in Sanskrit means, 'The Sun Gives Rainfall.' With a humble beginning in 1875, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) celebrated its 145th Foundation Day on January 1. It has marched forward with various milestones and paradigms to serve society. It is the principal agency responsible for meteorological observations, weather forecasting, and seismology. It is the first organization in India to deploy a message-switching computer for supporting its global data exchange. Students of Grade 7 are learning about this department in the Chapter- Weather, climate, and adaptations of animals to climate. They presented a detailed report wherein they explained the history of the department, various tasks, and new initiatives taken by the department. The purpose of the enrichment activity was to generate awareness about how the IMD works and warn against severe weather phenomena like tropical cyclones, dust storms, heavy rains, etc. which cause destruction of life and property.

STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT THE GEOGRAPHICAL DIVERSITY OF INDIA

Most of India forms a peninsula, which means it is surrounded by water on three sides. The world's highest mountain range, the Himalayas, rises in the north. India's terrain varies widely, from the Thar Desert in the west to jungles in the northeast. A fertile area called the Ganges Plain covers much of northern India. Students of Grade VI partook in a project wherein they studied the various landforms found in our country. They also gathered information about the locational setting, neighbouring countries, and political and administrative of India. The collaborative project was presented in the online Social Science module. The exercise helped students strengthen their knowledge about the geographical diversity of our country.

“No matter how far the siblings are, the beautiful festival of Rakshabandhan always brings back happy memories!”

The festival of Rakshabandhan which is celebrated in Hindu communities across the world is a special time when brothers and sisters show love and care for one another. The virtuous bond of love between a brother and a sister is one of the deepest and noblest of human emotions. To symbolize a sister's love and prayers for her brother's well-being and the brother's lifelong vow to protect her, a special virtual assembly was conducted in Presidium on Rakshabandhan. The program was a colorful blend of poems, speeches, acts, and dance with the students highlighting the importance of the festival. The values of love and protection were sensitively portrayed by the students. The celebration ended as a heartfelt note of realization and expression of all the voluminous love, compassion, and togetherness that the golden thread of Rakhi pulsates with.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION ENHANCES PATRIOTISM IN OUR STUDENTS!

Independence Day reminds us of all the sacrifices the freedom fighters have made to secure the country’s future. Commemorating the nation’s Independence from British rule, the Presidium celebrated 75th Independence Day virtually. This allowed the participants to express their patriotic ideals and showcase their talent even in these unprecedented times. These trying times did not dampen the spirit of pride and patriotism in the students as they participated in the celebration. The virtual assembly began with the unfurling of the National Flag as the national anthem echoed in the air. Presidians presented their thoughts on Independence Day in their speech.  Our talented students gave a tribute to our freedom fighters with a heart-touching mono act and patriotic dances glorifying our nation added colour to the celebration and turned the atmosphere festive.

STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT THE INDISPENSABLE ROLE OF FOREST

The forest is a complex ecosystem consisting mainly of trees that buffer the earth and support a myriad of life forms. The importance of forests cannot be underestimated, we depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. To bring a better understanding about the theme “Forest” a virtual academic activity was organized for students of Grade 5 wherein the students learnt about different types of trees, tribes, forest etc. The students prepared a creative project in which they pasted pictures of different types of trees with elaborated information that was showcased in the online class. The students learnt about the significance of the trees that are vital and give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilise the soil and life to the world's wildlife. Many students also shared that the trees give us clothes, wood for fuel, paper, rubber, herbs for curing diseases, cold or shade in summer. The activity concluded with the note that without trees, survival is impossible as there will be no food for animals or human beings.

STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT REVERSIBLE & IRREVERSIBLE CHANGES

Changes are very random or uncertain phenomena, it can be better or worse depending on our views. Changes primarily are of two types - Reversible and Irreversible changes. Students of Grade 6 learned about the grouping of changes as reversible and irreversible changes. They presented the changes like a raw egg to a boiled egg, batter to idli, wet clothes to dry clothes, cold milk to hot milk, etc. wherein they learned that some changes can be reversed and some cannot be reversed. The collaborative activity was presented in the online Science module. The activity helped students strengthen their understanding of the changes taking place in our day-to-day life.

STUDENTS ENHANCE THEIR VOCABULARY WITH TAMBOLA OF WORDS ACTIVITY

Tambola, also known as Tombola, Indian Bingo, or Housie is a popular game that is believed to have originated in Italy in the early 1500s. The game is fun to play and easy to learn. An academic activity called ‘Word Tambola’ was organized for the students of Grade 5 in the Virtual class. The teacher read out the words randomly that were in the card of the student’s and they striked it if the word said by the teacher existed in the children’s card. The teacher described each and every rule carefully to all the students so that there is no confusion amongst them. The game ended when all the Full Houses were successfully claimed. This helped the students to learn new words n polish their vocabulary bank.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of fearless determination & exceptional valour of our Armed forces. 26th July immortalized as Kargil Vijay Diwas is a saga of the glorious victory of the nation during the Kargil Conflict in May-July 1999. Kargil is not only a symbol of our self-respect but also a step against injustice. A virtual assembly was organized to pay homage to the Martyrs of the Indian Army. The assembly kick-started with an English and Hindi speech wherein children emphasized the significance of the event followed by a poem recital showcasing tribute to the Indian Army. Finally,  a patriotic dance mesmerized the audience and the assembly concluded with the echo of Jai Hind that filled everyone with immense love for their motherland.

STUDENTS BRING TO THE FORE THE VITAL ROLE OF GURUS IN OUR LIVES!

Guru Purnima is an auspicious occasion to revere the chosen spiritual teachers and express gratitude towards them. The festival is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha. Presidians paid obeisance to their gurus and teachers during a special assembly on the occasion. They dedicated speeches and verses, presented shlokas and mantras in honour of their teachers. They shared that they are thankful for the knowledge imparted by their Gurus and teachers and the best way to enhance what we have attained from our Gurus is to share the knowledge with others. The students were made aware of the fact that every day could be Guru Purnima in their lives when they honour what life has taught them. Wisdom is there in each and every one of us, but we must throw light on our life because when we throw light on our life, wisdom dawns.
